Woman suspected of DUI in violent crash that killed motorist in Los Angeles


A man was killed in a collision with a driver suspected of being under the influence and running a red light in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Los Angeles overnight.

The incident was reported shortly before midnight at the intersection of South Western Avenue and West Century Boulevard.

Police said the driver of a gray Tesla ran a red light while she was traveling southbound on Western and struck a silver Chevrolet Malibu headed eastbound on Century.

Surveillance video showed the violent collision between the two vehicles in the middle of the intersection.

The unidentified driver of the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members arrived and told KTLA’s Carlos Herrera that the victim was a wonderful man and the father of a young child.

Two passengers in the Tesla were hospitalized in unknown conditions following the crash.

The 26-year-old driver of the Tesla was seen taking a sobriety test and being put into handcuffs.

Police said the woman would be booked on suspicion of felony DUI.

The intersection reopened around 4 a.m. after an hourslong investigation.
