Body found in vehicle fire at South Bay sports complex



SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities on Monday found a body at the Tijuana River Valley Sports Complex that is being investigated as a suspicious death.

Around 11 a.m., officers received a report of a vehicle fire in the sports complex’s parking lot in the 2600 block of Sunset Avenue, Lt. Daniel Meyer with the San Diego Police Department said in a news release.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found the upper half of the body inside the vehicle, while the legs were on the ground outside of the vehicle.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death, but the details found out about the body is that it is believed to be a male, according to Meyer. It is unclear if the person endured any traumatic injury.

The Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating the cause of the fire to the older model cargo style van; the color of the vehicle is unclear at this point due to the damage from the blaze.
