ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Joe Citone has been planning The Palazzo Ristorante in Rotterdam since 2019. Now, he’s finally getting ready to open.
The Palazzo Ristorante will be located at the former Joe’s Pizza Place at 2780 Hamburg Street. Citone fully renovated the building, including the restaurant space, the six apartments above the restaurant and a house in the back of the property that was turned into three more apartments.
For the restaurant, Citone put up a new facade, a patio, fire pits, an outside bar, TVs, and entertainment space. Inside, he put in a large bar and lounge area and a stage for music on Friday nights, as well as renovated the dining room.
“I would say it’s finer, casual dining as opposed to fine dining,” said Citone. “You can dress up. It’s classy. It’s very, very sharp inside.” The Palazzo Ristorante will have separate menus and hours for the bar area and the semi-formal dining room.
The bar menu will feature pizza, burgers, sandwiches, chicken wings, and other appetizers. Citone said the restaurant will be offering takeout and delivery only on the pizzas and appetizers. The Palazzo bar will be open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday through Sunday.
The dining room menu will feature several pasta dishes, chicken and veal parmesan, chicken masala, and other Italian meals. The dining room will be open 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Citone said they will also be having brunch in the dining room from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Citone previously owned Cusato’s in in Albany, Rotterdam, Troy, Watervliet, and Clifton Park. He sold the last Cusato’s in October 2022.
The renovations are all done, and now Citone is waiting on some inspections and working on getting the liquor license. Citone said this also gives him time to fine-tune the menu and hire employees. He hopes to open The Palazzo Ristorante in April or May.
