Severe weather shelters to open in Marin, Santa Cruz counties



(BCN) — A strong storm forecast for the San Francisco Bay Area triggered plans to open emergency shelters for the homeless in Marin and Santa Cruz counties on Saturday.

Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco will operate an overnight shelter at the Marin Health and Wellness Campus, 3240 Kerner Blvd., San Rafael.

The San Rafael site will be open from 5 p.m. Saturday through 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

In Santa Cruz County, three sites will be open beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Severe weather shelters at 119 Center St., Depot Park, and the Watsonville Veterans Hall, 215 East Beach St., Watsonville, will operate as 24-hour shelters and be open until noon on Monday.

The Santa Cruz Veterans Hall, 846 Front St., Santa Cruz, will operate as an overnight shelter from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
