(KRON) – The suspect in a high-speed chase that led to multiple vehicles colliding and the fatal crushing of a 76-year-old man has been arrested, the Vallejo Police Department announced.
At 2:27 p.m. on Oct. 17, Vallejo police officers initiated a traffic stop on a red Ford Fusion in the area of Sonoma Boulevard and Carolina Street for reckless driving.
According to police, the suspect sped away to evade the officers. After the driver reportedly sped through two stop signs, the sedan collided with multiple parked cars at the south curb in the 300 block of Carolina Street.
Police said the suspect then fled on foot. Officers said they found a firearm in the vehicle.
A 76-year-old Vallejo resident was standing between two of the parked cars when the Fusion collided with the vehicles, crushing the victim. Medical emergency personnel transported the victim to a local hospital. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division took over the investigation and identified 22-year-old Vallejo resident Jovon Woodard as the suspect.
On Jan. 30, Woodard was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail.
